The Escape to Safety

The Escape to Safety - By Minhan

It was 6:00am in the morning when I heard a “BOOM!” I was almost shocked to death. Then I heard another BOOM! I heard my mum shouting” quick! We need to leave, pack some of the things you need and meet me at the door”, there was no time to lose, I stuffed some clothes and pants in to my rucksack and took of to the door, I heard people screaming and shouting and wanted to get away from all the bad things that is happening right now, it was terrifying, houses were on fire everything was bad, no wonder they would scream and shout. I saw my mum standing in the doorway waiting for me impatiently, she dragged me out of the house, I saw smoke everywhere, everyone’s faces were sadder than ever, I almost thought it was the end of the world.

I saw houses on fire everywhere, then I heard a sound behind me: it was my dad! I almost forgot about him, we traveled night and day to get to a safer place. Until we found a bench on the road side we sat there to have a rest, it was like the comfiest seat after we left home. Me and my dad were wanting to have more time to rest but my mum confessed that we need to keep going, my mum pulled us and dragged us finally we kept going. We saw other people traveling with their family too, at night time we traveled on a boat with othe refugees. It was a long ride, I was almost squished out of the boat by some people. We were brought to a refugee camp by the government.

My family stayed in the tent for the night with some other people. We went out to find some firewood and we lit up some fire and we started roasting some food to eat.  The other people were very nice and were running from their country too. In the morning, we went to the forest first so we can have some food on the way, when I was finding the food, my leg got badly injured, blood was strolling down, I got taken back to the camp and they put a plaster on my leg after they finished cleaning the injured place with water.  we set on finding another, after they put the plaster on. We were very worried that if we got caught and had to go back to the camp. We walked for a long time, all of a sudden, boom! We thought it was another bomb, but suddenly a shower of rain poured on us, we were all soaking wet. We walked and walked, carrying my rucksack was so tiring, so sometimes I needed my mum to carry the rucksack for me. Night came slowly as we walked to our destination, we were so tired of walking, we found a place to sleep and we slept for 2 hours all so and kept going, until we found a boat there were lots of other people already there.

We were on the boat for hours until we finally got to a place called New Zealand, we were registered as refugees, the New Zealand people were very nice. I soon started school. It was not the same but I was getting used to it.
